I'm not fluent in Maori but I think maybe Te Iriangi te motu translates as mediocre commercial music made at the NZ tax payers expense.
There are no sour grapes here. I am a tax payer and NzonAir is a waste of my money. It is not setting out to create a New Zealand music industry which is financially viable and earns NZ export dollars.
The problem lies in the NzonAir charter. This makes them a 'success' if they get NZ music played on commercial air waves. However this success ignores the hype and shit Nzonair spent mega dollars on to make it happen.
If 15,000 units is platinum. There is no way the gross revenue from these sales could justify a Tv advertising campaign.
Most NzonAir music (except Pacific hip hop) has very little export potential. Trying to export 'modern' pop music is like making cars in New Zealand and trying to export them to Japan!
Anyhow it's not a biggie to us, the next compilation won't be called No Thanks II or anything. The bird on the cover was pretty much just a spontaneous little piss take cause every crap video on my crap Tv says 'thanks to ….'
I hope you folks enjoy this compilation. Look out for the sequel soon.
